Cook, gather and stay part of the conversation

Outdoor Kitchens

An outdoor kitchen should make entertaining feel easy. We design the cooking, preparation, serving and seating areas together, then build the kitchen into the architecture of your patio, pool and landscape.

Start with how you cook and entertain

We discuss the number of people you host, the meals you enjoy preparing and the connection to your indoor kitchen. The layout allows room to prepare food, set down serving dishes and move between the grill, storage and dining area while guests have a comfortable place to gather.

Select appliances before the kitchen is built

Grills, side burners, refrigeration, sinks and specialty cooking appliances influence the dimensions and construction of the island. We coordinate the selected models, required openings, access and installation details before the structure and counters are finalized. Equipment and owner-supplied items are identified in the agreed scope.

Coordinate gas, power, water and drainage

Utility routes are planned with the paving and landscape work. The selected appliances determine the connections, ventilation and service access that need to be included. Any sink and its drainage are considered early, along with electrical needs for refrigeration, outlets, lighting and controls.

Choose materials that belong to the property

Countertops, stone, tile, stucco and cabinetry should relate to the house and surrounding hardscape. We discuss outdoor exposure, cleaning and the demands of the cooking area when selecting finishes. Edges, corners, joints and access panels are part of the finished design.

Make seating and shade work with the cooking area

Bar seating, a separate dining table and nearby lounge space create different ways to use the kitchen. We consider clear walking routes, the cook’s working space, prevailing wind and the relationship to patio covers. Appliance requirements guide the placement near walls and overhead structures.

Bring the kitchen into the evening

Task lighting helps at preparation and cooking surfaces, while more subdued light can support dining and conversation. We coordinate the kitchen lighting with the patio, steps, planting and pool so the outdoor space remains inviting after sunset.

Build it as part of one coordinated project

An outdoor kitchen often works best when planned with the terrace, pool, fireplace and landscape. We begin with a complimentary site visit and detailed scope and budget, then develop the design after budget approval and a signed design-build Home Improvement Contract.
